Forklift Rentals

Class 1 through Class 5, 3,000 to 55,000 lbs., from branches across Louisiana, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Iowa.

A forklift rental is usually the fix for something that already went sideways. A unit went down, a shipment landed early, a seasonal push started, or a shutdown got moved up. Burwell Material Handling rents the full lift truck range, so the machine that shows up matches the load instead of the other way around.

Electric cushion trucks for tight indoor aisles. Pneumatic tire trucks for yards and broken ground. Rough terrain units for job sites. Stand-up and walk-behind trucks for racking and dock work. Daily, weekly and monthly terms, with the same branch handling parts and service behind the rental.

Forklift Classes We Rent

  • Class 1, electric counterbalance, cushion tire, 3,000 to 6,000 lbs. Indoor work on finished floors. No emissions and quiet enough for food and pharma space.
  • Class 2, electric narrow aisle stand-up, 4,000 lbs. Racked warehouses where aisle width dictates everything.
  • Class 3, electric pallet trucks, walk-behind or ride-on. Trailer loading, dock work and short moves where a counterbalance truck is overkill.
  • Class 4, internal combustion cushion tire, 3,000 to 15,000 lbs. Indoor and dock work on finished floors with heavier loads than an electric will carry.
  • Class 5, internal combustion pneumatic tire, 3,000 to 55,000 lbs. Yards, lumber, steel, containers and precast. The heavy end of the fleet.
Rough terrain forklifts, 6,000 to 8,000 lbs. Job sites, nurseries and unimproved ground where a warehouse tire has no business.
  • Manual pallet jacks. The cheapest thing in the fleet and the answer more often than people expect.

How to Pick the Right Forklift

  • Load weight at the load center, not the number stamped on the data plate.
  • Lift height, and whether you are stacking into racking or moving floor to floor.
  • Surface. Finished concrete, asphalt, gravel or dirt changes the tire and the truck.
  • Indoors, outdoors or both. Indoor work usually points to electric or cushion tire.
  • Aisle width and turning radius in the space the truck has to work in.
  • Attachment and carriage requirements, if the load is not a standard pallet.
  • How long you need it. Past about three weeks, a monthly rate usually wins.

Why Rent from Burwell Material Handling

  • Local branches, not a call center. Equipment, parts and technicians sit in the same building.
  • Authorized dealer coverage. Bobcat, Linde and Hyundai Material Handling on the forklift side, Genie and JLG on aerial, with Combilift and Princeton
  • Delivery Systems for specialty work. Coverage varies by branch.
  • Service behind the rental. Factory-trained technicians support the rental fleet directly, so a breakdown is not a call to a third party.
  • Terms that match the work. Daily, weekly and monthly, with longer project terms available.
  • One source for the whole site. Warehouse forklifts and outdoor lifts on the same contract, from the same branch.

FAQ

What forklift classes can I rent?
All five. Class 1 electric counterbalance with cushion tires, Class 2 electric narrow aisle stand-up, Class 3 electric pallet trucks, Class 4 internal combustion cushion tire and Class 5 internal combustion pneumatic tire. Rough terrain forklifts and manual pallet jacks round out the fleet.

What is the largest forklift you rent?

Our Class 5 pneumatic tire fleet reaches 55,000 lbs. of capacity, which handles container, steel, precast and heavy machinery work.

What is the smallest?
A manual pallet jack. Above that, Class 3 electric pallet trucks and 3,000 lb. Class 1 electric units cover light indoor work.

Which forklift do I need for outdoor work?
Pneumatic tire, which means Class 5 for improved surfaces or a rough terrain forklift for dirt, gravel and unimproved ground. Cushion tire units are for finished floors and will not do the job outside.

How long can I rent a forklift?
Daily, weekly and monthly terms. Longer projects usually price better on a monthly rate, and we can talk about a purchase if the need turns out to be permanent.

Do you deliver?
Yes. Delivery and pickup run from the branch closest to your site and are quoted with the rental.

Do I need certification to operate a rented forklift?
Yes. OSHA requires operator training and evaluation for powered industrial trucks under 29 CFR 1910.178(l), and ANSI A92 requires training plus machine-specific familiarization for aerial lifts. We provide familiarization on the unit at delivery. Operator certification remains the employer's responsibility.

What happens if the forklift breaks down?
Call the branch. Our factory-trained technicians support the rental fleet directly, so you are not routing a service call through a third party.

Can I rent a forklift attachment?
Ask when you request the quote. We are an authorized dealer for Combilift and Princeton Delivery Systems and can advise on the right configuration for your load.

Do you rent to homeowners or only to businesses?
Contact the branch. Requirements vary by machine class and by insurance, and larger units are generally restricted to trained commercial operators.
